Thinking about gardening this year?

It’s springtime and those tempting seed
catalogs are filling our mailboxes, inspiring
us to do some gardening! My husband and I
started gardening with our children when they
were young and it was such a fun experience.
We all learned alongside each other and got
to experience the wonder of actual food
growing in our own back yard. :)

As we strive to eat healthier and to include
more organic veggies in our diet, gardening
is seeming like more and more of a necessity.
Last year I found organic sweet peppers at
the store for nearly $8 per pepper! Ha.
That’s just not going to happen. This year
I’ll be growing my OWN peppers…in all the
colors….for cheap! :)

If you’re having similar thoughts, you are
going to love
this deal! My friend Jim Erskine has put
together
a fabulous collection of gardening resources
at a super price.
This
“tool kit” has 14 resource
s that will
instruct and inspire you in your gardening
pursuits this spring. For this week you can
get them at a great discounted price.
Go
on over and check out all these great
resources.
They have stuff for organic
gardening, growing potatoes the easy way,
ideas for including your children in
gardening, and lots more.

Two Tales of Head Lice

This morning I was awakened by a phone call from a friend who was concerned that her daughter had head lice.  After I got up and dressed I went over to her house to investigate.  Sure enough, cooties!  So we spent an hour using the Robi Comb and egg comb, finding probably at least 20 live lice and umpteen eggs.

This friend is what I would consider to be an extremely conscientious mother.  Her children are always very clean, well-dressed, and watched over.  Although she knew about my head lice repellant spray, I think maybe she thought that head lice would never venture into her little girl’s sweet, clean head.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:  Head lice are no respector of persons!  :)  No matter how clean and neat you are, or what kind of school your children go to, head lice can show up to anyone’s party.

In contrast, once I got to my book group today I told the gals there about my morning of cootie catching with my other friend.  One woman in the group bought my spray for her granddaughters, who  had always gotten head lice at least 3 times per school year.  She said that since starting to use my spray they hadn’t had any head lice.

It’s easier to keep it away than get it away, folks!  :)

I had never heard of IBC until today when my mom sent me this link. Later today, we found out that my grandmother very likely has it. Tests will be in next week.

Until then, please take a few minutes to watch and learn. Afterwards you can learn more at this site.

Franklin Springs Family Media

I just wanted to mention to you folks Franklin Springs Family Media. My family has enjoyed several of their DVDs, including A Journey Home, Eden String Quartet, Serene’s healthy eating DVD, The Peasall Sisters, and Charlie Zahn (which I think is our favorite). Many of these videos will be particularly inspiring to homeschool families, but there is much to enjoy in all of them if you appreciate traditional family values! My in-laws have really loved the Charlie Zahm DVD, which is musically excellent and endearing.

I love to tell people about this company since I think they are providing some wonderful materials for families. Why not support them by purchasing a movie or two? We bought several for our family for Christmas gifts last year. :)

This database at the Environmental Working Group is an excellent spot for you to check on your household products and personal care products (such as skin care items and cosmetics) to see how safe (or not!) they really are. Very educational and helpful for those of you looking to live a totally healthy life!
